Illawarra Man Charged With Intent to Murder After Woonoona Shooting

Local Illawarra man Tyson Neil Bayley has been formally charged with intent to murder after shooting a man in the face in the suburb of Woonoona on Wednesday the 21st of September. Mr Bayley has been refused bail and is expected to face Wollongong Local court on Wednesday October 5.

The individual injured in the daylight shooting has now been identified by authorities as 29 year-old Nigel Romaniszyn. According to information gathered by the Illawarra Mercury, police allege the incident occurred on Joanne Street at approximately 2:30pm before emergency services were called to nearby Mountain Avenue, where it is alleged Mr Romaniszyn drove to after being shot. He was tended to for serious facial injuries from the apparent gunshot before being airlifted to hospital in Sydney.

Police have released statements concerning the shooting saying the injuries that Mr Romaniszyn sustained were not considered life threatening and has since been released from hospital. Police also report that Bayley handed himself into Wollongong Police station at 10:15 in Tuesday morning where he was arrested and charged with “shoot at with attempt to murder”.

Two other men have also been arrested regarding the incident. One man was arrested last Friday in connection with the shooting and was refused bail in Parramatta court on Saturday.
