Let’s run for the children! Wollongong

The annual Run Wollongong event hosted by Run Australia, was greeted with the expected level of electric enthusiasm and was ultimately a resounding success to all involved. Run Australia aims to improve the healthcare of young people in regional Australia through physical exercise, guaranteeing that 100% of every registration fee will go straight to the local community cause.

Red runner promoter Bec Van Der Kolk said Run Wollongong was a worthwhile event as participants know exactly where the funds go.

“Just think it’s a really good course, as there are a lot of different charities out there, where you are never really sure where the money is going or how much of that money is getting split between different people and stuff like that,” Ms Kolk said.

“And this one I know that 100% of the money goes towards the Children’s ward at Wollongong Hospital.”

Run Australia facilitated the event with festival fun, where people can run, walk or roll the streets of their local community while raising much-needed funds for a local children’s health-related project in their town. In Wollongong, the money was raised for The Redevelopment of the Children’s Ward at Wollongong Hospital.

There were 6km and 12km courses running alongside the Wollongong Foreshore and take in the stunning coastal surrounds. There was also a 1km kids run along a shorter section of the Foreshore course, lapping the Win Stadium, with a big finish in our festival village.

1km kids course participant Ben Green said the 1km course could let his children do some exercise and enjoy some family fun.

“It’s good to do something healthy, a bit of exercise and running, and have a bit of fun at the same time,” Mr Green said.

“I’ve done a few runs like I did the Costal Classic yesterday in the Royal National Park. And the kids are interested in doing a little bit as well.”

Run Australia also held the run event in Townsville, Newcastle, Ballarat and Geelong.
