Throughout late September to early November Wollongong will be offering for writers workshops throughout the region, catering to both experienced and novice writers. Hosted by The South Coast Writers Centre (SCWC), the workshops will encourage writers to stretch their creative muscles with a vast array of workshops including memoir writing, performance poetry, comedy writing and more.
The amazing line-up of workshops has a lot to offer to established, emerging or aspiring writers. Participants will be encouraged to connect with other up and coming writers to share their stories, as well as having face-to-face time with prominent authors from the South Coast.
Memoir Writing in Bermagui- $55 24 September, 10am to 4pm (Bermagui Community Centre)
Rae Luckie is a specialist when it comes to life writing workshops, and mentoring writers in manuscript development and so in this workshop she will teach the writers skills for researching and writing their family history.
Performance Poetry for World AIDS Day – $10 22 October, 1pm to 4pm (New Outlook Community Centre, Wollongong)
Gabrielle Journey Jones, a co-Founder of Creative Womyn Down Under, a Sydney-based initiative that connects women with creativity. Gabrielle has been using poetry and drumming to bring attention to social issues for over 20 years.
Comedy Writing for All Ages – $55 28 October, 10am to 4pm (UOW, Room 19.G022B)
Harry Laing is the author of Sharktopus – Poems to Grip You, and teaches a wide range of workshops to both children and adults. Come down to the University of Wollongong for a class to brighten your day.
Build Your Author Platform – $65 12 November, 10am to 1pm (Wollongong Central Library)
Allison Tait is the bestselling author of The Mapmaker Chronicles, and is involved in various literary events around NSW.
The South Coast Writers Centre (SCWC) understands that people who are interested in writing sometimes have a tough time developing their own skills and style without formal training. These workshops hope to provide a unique opportunity for individuals to develop professional writing skills in just a few hours.
